Here’s more on #storytelling, Part 3 of a list of components of #personalbrand.
What is your special area of #strength? What #differentiates you from others? How do you tell your #story to others?
According to Heather Cherry a personal brand story is a cohesive #narrative that encompasses the facts and feelings created by you, your brand, or your business. It defines a fundamental purpose and identifies #beliefs, personal #objectives, and #outlines a set of #goals (short-term and long-term) that embody those #values.
Mark Monane, MD, MBA from White Coat Blue Blazer recounts that a physician he coached was reticent to describe her strengths and special attributes, saying that her experience is well described in her resume. While this is true, the personal tale and description – the story part - is not included in the framework of the resume. Instead, he asked her, “So instead of your describing your own strengths, tell me what areas your colleagues have told that you excel in?” After some more open ended questions highlighting some professional successes as well as her professional, specific goals, she was able to craft her personal brand story.
This approach can work especially well for those uncomfortable talking about themselves from introverts, to those from cultures prizing self-effacing humility, or #womeninmedicine.
Here is the full list of #business tips from Forbes, which apply to physicians too.:
1. Have a focus.
2. Be genuine.
3. Tell a story.
4. Be consistent.
5. Be ready to fail.
6. Create a positive impact.
7. Follow a successful example.
8. Live your brand.
9. Let other people tell your story.
10. Leave a legacy.
