What is a "Safe Space" for Physician Peer Learning?

What do we mean by “safe space” at White Coat Blue Blazer? Let’s unpack.
In the world of #innovation and #startups, we often hear about “fail fast.”
Our training as physicians makes us perfectionist, unwilling to ever commit an error due to the harm to patients and our liability.
How to reconcile #entrepreneurial#business “fail fast” with #physician“first do no harm”?
This creates an internal tension for physicians who transition out of clinical #medicine into fast paced growth environments. While equipoise is important (& is more ethical), you are often expected to decide & execute on decisions quickly. Your expertise, your name, your reputation, & your license are the source of credibility.
As much as those around you might be touting “fail fast”, often a physician is hired to ensure compliance with regulations and be an expert on clinical evidence. You operate under different expectations, and if still licensed, different accountability.
As a result, you may need a space where you can consider ideas or how you communicate things in a “safe space” that is free of the consequences of the workplace. Private #coaching or privacy-protected peer-learning allows you that space to pre-think & assess, then decide actions you offer in your work setting or in public. You can do so with a physician coach thought partner or peer group.
